About Rukuma Viegas

Product and program leadership at the intersection of payments, marketing, and AI — built at Mastercard, sharpened by Cornell, applied across continents.

I build and fix the engines that grow global businesses. That work happens at the intersection of three disciplines most people keep separate: product, program, and global marketing — with an AI-native toolkit on top.

The differentiator is the blend. Most product leaders come from pure tech; I came up through brand, communications, and marketing, then moved into technical delivery. I speak both languages fluently — I can sit with engineers on delivery risk and with executives on brand and audience — and translate between them without losing fidelity.

The arc

My career began in corporate communications and branding across India — Tetra Pak, Manipal Health Systems, Persistent Systems, and Microsoft's website work via Cybage. That foundation taught me the thing most PMs never learn formally: what makes people care.

At Mastercard (2013–present), I moved from marketing communications through internal communications, marketing technology, and global digital marketing — and then into the engine room, as a Technical Program Manager and now a Product Manager. It's the rare path that goes from the story to the system: from crafting the message to shipping the thing the message is about.

At Cornell University (MBA, Magna Cum Laude), I learned to think in systems — to see the whole engine, not just the part in front of me. That lens is the difference between fixing a symptom and fixing the thing that caused it.

How I work

  • Outcomes over activity. I measure programs by what changed, not by what shipped.
  • Speed through clarity. Ambiguity is the real tax on big programs; I remove it first.
  • AI-native by default. I bring AI tooling into marketing and program workflows — raising what a small team can ship without raising headcount.
  • Networks that compound. Years in payments and tech means I can get the right person in the room, fast.

Where I'm headed

Based in New York, originally from India — Bengaluru and Pune. Working globally: Copenhagen, Brussels, Singapore, Dubai, Tokyo, or remote. I'm not looking for a job description to fill; I'm looking for a problem worth solving and a leader who wants it solved properly.
